What Have I Done:

What Have I Done:

Tattoos are forever, so at Stories of the Ink, we advise all of our fans to think, research, and plan out before they ink!  Tattoos are a great way to express yourself, however, the wrong words, symbols, or combinations of images can “express” a different meaning.  Before getting inked, look over the spelling of your tattoo, the grammar, the images, and if in another language, the correct combination of words.  A trending tattoo is words or symbols in Chinese or Japanese. While these tattoos are beautiful, some do not know that when combining certain symbols, they are changing the meaning of their tattoo! Uh-Oh!

An infamous tattoo mistake that was in Japanese was Ariana Grandes’ “7 rings”, or should we say “small charcoal BBQ grill”!  When Grande released her new 7 Rings hit, she wanted to celebrate the event by getting a tattoo in honor of the hit! When looking at individual symbols in Japanese writing, the symbols meant 7 and  Rings. Unfortunately, once combined the meaning of the tattoo changed to “small charcoal BBQ grill”!

Getting a tattoo in a different language or in symbols that we do not know much about can be challenging.  At Stories of the Ink, we advise that before getting such tattoos, you do plenty of research on the symbols, what they mean, and if the meaning changes once combined.  If you have any questions or need advice, reach out to us at JL@storiesoftheink.com  we can help put you into contact with an artist who specializes in Japanese writing tattoos!

Yours, Zoe
